The pROGRAM
Over the last few years, entrepreneurship has become
a popular buzzword in the business press around
the globe. More importantly, however, entrepreneurship
has become an increasingly important topic for managers,
for at least two reasons. First, successful managers
in larger firms are increasingly faced with the
temptation of "going it on their own."
Second, managers of larger firms face increasing
competition from lean and aggressive start-up companies.
In addition, the rise of the global venture capital
industry has contributed considerably to the rise
of entrepreneurship. The potential benefits of starting
an entrepreneurial venture are high, but so are
the risks. In addition to the business risk of a
venture, many start-up companies are now faced with
the challenge of having to manage nternationally
from the inception of their venture.
This seminar will
examine how a number of entrepreneurs and the managers
working with them have built successful companies
in several countries around the world. We will pay
particular attention to country context factors
and how such factors affect the choice of business
model and business structure of a venture. We will
also examine some of the challenges that arise as
companies expand internationally. The seminar will
consist of a combination of a lecture and presentation
of case studies. There will be plenty of room for
discussion and for questions from the participants.
