Karachi,
March 6 – The 10th Convention of the
Management Association of Pakistan (MAP) was launched
here at a local hotel in Karachi.
The three-day convention is
based on the theme of “Leadership, Innovation,
Entrepreneurship”, and features some of the
leading statesmen, business thinkers and management
strategists from within the region and around the
globe in many keynote addresses, presentations,
and panel discussions.
Speaking on the occasion as
Guest of Honor, Mohammed Mian Soomro, Chairman Senate
said that Pakistan’s achievements in the economic
sector with a GDP growth rate of over six per cent
have been acknowledged by the world and all economic
indicators including foreign investment, capital
market growth, agriculture and industrial development,
and export figures of the country are on an all
time high and the future prospects are looking brighter.
Our national economy has today grown to US$125 billion
as against US$60 billion in 1999 a factor which
has strengthen a host of economic areas, he added.
Presenting an overview of
the country’s economy, Soomro informed that
the country’s revenue collection has jumped
to Rs700 billion from Rs300 billion, exports have
grown to over US$17 billion from over US$7 billion
and public sector development projects have seen
an increase to Rs300 billion from Rs100 billion
over the same period.
He further said that the policies
of the present government are aimed at building
up the confidence of the international business
community and promotion of Pakistan as a dynamic
and progressive services and products provider.
The results of these efforts can be seen in the
visible growth in foreign investment in the financial,
telecommunications, oil and gas, energy, infrastructure
development, real estate and other sectors, he claimed.
He was of the view that the
international community has trusted the government
and people of Pakistan and extended their business
interests to this country owing to the policies
of the present government, which has heralded a
new era of development, growth and prosperity.
Soomro congratulated the Management
Association of Pakistan on hosting the biggest corporate
summit of Pakistan being attended by around 500
corporate heads, top managers, and senior executives
of Pakistan’s corporate sector and with an
overwhelming participation of foreign speakers and
delegates.
Nicole Piasecki, Executive
Vice President, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, who
is leading a six-member delegation of the Boeing
at the MAP Convention, delivered the keynote address
at the inaugural session.
Earlier, welcoming the delegates
of the 10th Management Convention, Asif Qadir, Vice
President of the Management Association of Pakistan
(MAP) said that the event is aimed at providing
an opportunity to the Pakistani business community
to maximize their exposure to the international
best management practices and enhance their interaction
with the top players in the global business scenario.
